A SHORT HISTORY OF THE POLICE REPRESENTATIVE MOVEMENT IN IRELAND While Ireland was still under British administration, in 1919 in fact, the first legislation was passed which gave permission for organisations to be set up which would represent the interests of policemen in the areas of pay, pensions and conditions of service. Each rank below that of Chief Superintendent was represented by a committee elected from the members in that rank.
